The US antidumping and countervailing duty order on citric acid has been in effect since 2009 and applies to Chinese-origin material. Duty rates run from roughly 40% to over 200% depending on the producer. A quote that looks cheap on a spot basis can carry that exposure, along with the scope-ruling risk that follows it, and the importer of record is the one who pays.

Citric acid is GRAS under 21 CFR 184.1033 with no functional-use limit, and it is produced by microbial fermentation of plant-derived sugars. It is kosher, halal and non-GMO.
