How aminochelated iron works.

Iron deficiency is the most common micronutrient deficiency worldwide. Ferrous sulfate is the standard supplement form, but it comes with well-documented problems at therapeutic doses: constipation, dark stool, nausea, and metallic taste. These side effects cause non-compliance in the patients and populations that need supplementation most: pregnant women, menstruating women, and children.

Iron bisglycinate premix

Iron bisglycinate premix. Off-white fine powder, organoleptically neutral.

Iron bisglycinate solves the GI problem through two mechanisms. First, the bisglycinate chelation protects the iron molecule from oxidative interactions with dietary inhibitors (phytates in grains, tannins in tea and coffee, calcium) that would otherwise block absorption. This is why bisglycinate has higher bioavailability from complex food matrices. Second, the chelated form is absorbed via the dipeptide transporter pathway largely intact, so less free iron reaches the large intestine to cause oxidative disruption.

The no-metallic-taste profile matters for formulators building food-grade iron fortification into beverages, cereals, and bars. Ferrous sulfate and other sulfate-based forms contribute strong metallic flavor that limits their use in taste-sensitive applications. Iron bisglycinate is organoleptically neutral at standard inclusion levels.

Complete the aminochelated mineral stack.

Iron bisglycinate pairs naturally with magnesium glycinate and zinc bisglycinate for a fully aminochelated mineral complex. All three share the bisglycinate chelation chemistry, GI gentleness, and clean-label compatibility, making a coherent story for multi-mineral formulas.

Applications.

Women's health supplements

Iron is the #1 mineral deficiency in women of reproductive age. Bisglycinate's GI profile makes it suitable for standalone iron supplements and women's multis at therapeutic doses.

Prenatal formulas

GI tolerance is paramount during pregnancy when GI sensitivity is elevated. Iron bisglycinate at therapeutic levels (27 mg/day for pregnant women) without the side effects of sulfate forms.

Children's nutrition

Pediatric iron supplementation requires palatable, gut-gentle ingredients. No metallic taste and a clean GI profile make bisglycinate the appropriate form for children's chewables and liquid supplements.

Food fortification

Organoleptically neutral in beverages, cereals, and functional food applications. Compatible with complex food matrices without the flavor off-notes of inorganic iron forms.

Multivitamin & mineral complexes

Clean-label iron for comprehensive supplement formulas. Pairs naturally with magnesium glycinate and zinc bisglycinate for a complete aminochelated mineral stack.

Energy & vitality

Iron is essential for oxygen transport and mitochondrial energy production. Iron deficiency fatigue is among the most common nutrition-related complaints addressed by supplement formulation.
